Pituitary tumours account for ten per cent of clinically significant intracranial tumours. Currently, they are most frequently classified as ΓÇÿfunctioningΓÇÖ or ΓÇÿnonfunctioningΓÇÖ, depending on whether a known hormone (for example, prolactin) is produced by the tumour.
